About CHOGM Road

CHOGM Road — officially named after the 1983 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting held in Goa — runs through the heart of Porvorim in North Goa. Over the past decade it has transformed from a quiet residential connector into one of Goa’s most vibrant commercial and lifestyle corridors.

A Brief History

The road was developed and widened in the run-up to the 1983 CHOGM summit, when Goa hosted world leaders from across the Commonwealth. The government invested heavily in infrastructure along this stretch, which eventually attracted businesses, restaurants and residences. Today, it’s impossible to imagine North Goa without it.

Where Exactly?

CHOGM Road runs through Porvorim, located across the Mandovi River from Panaji (Goa’s state capital). It’s easily accessible from the Old Goa road, NH-66 (the Mumbai–Goa highway), and is roughly equidistant from the popular beaches of Calangute, Baga and Candolim.

Getting Here

From Panaji: Cross the Mandovi Bridge and head north — CHOGM Road is about 8 minutes away. From Goa Airport: Approximately 40–50 minutes by road. From Calangute: About 15 minutes. Taxis, auto-rickshaws and app-based cab services like Rapido and Ola operate regularly in the area.

Neighbourhood Highlights

The Porvorim area around CHOGM Road includes residential colonies, schools, places of worship, medical facilities and government offices — giving the area a lived-in, authentic character that contrasts with the more purely tourist-oriented parts of Goa.
